Obligitory Update Q4 2007

Just an update I guess, since its been a while since I posted.
  • I got a Nintendo Wii.
  • I got a Facebook.
  • I will be finishing my album soon, and hopefully publishing it somewhere. (I am currently looking at Magnatune (Internet Record Label), and TuneCore (Service to publish on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, ect)
  • I quit smoking for about a month, then started again on a stressful day. :/
  • Hikari Radio was acquired by Keiichi.net Radio EX2
  • I am finally using zefie.net for something, besides just redirects (although those are still there). I also changed my email address, but you know me and "backwards compatibility", therefore all of my old ones still work.
  • I sold Oblivion for PS3 on eBay, since I never played it. Then I baught Folklore for $60 and Enchanted Arms for $20. I feel the prices were reversed because Folklore bored me and I sold it on eBay, whereas I still have Enchanted Arms.
  • I got a Visa Credit Card.
  • My ISP still sucks ass, just 10% less since they downgraded our modem package (caps are still broken), and changed the modem's internal frequency channel (better connection)
  • I got rkuchiki on YouTube back, along with all of my videos. Therefore old videos that didn't work in this LiveJournal before should now work again.
  • I'm slowing learning Japanese using The Rosetta Stone.
  • We (Mom and I) are having Thanksgiving dinner alone this year.
  • I once again promise to try to update this more often.
  • I once again will probably not update soon, since I always forget to. >.>

Bandwidth

So my ISP recently made an upgrade in our area, or so they said. A week ago the internet was out a good percentage of the day, when it came back, all hell broke loose.

I have 5mbit down, 256kbit up. But this is what I get between 7am and 1am:
(speedtest img missing, thx dslreports.com)

And this is what I get between 1am and 7am (a whole 6 hours a day):

As you can tell, the upstream is consistent, but the downstream is on crack.

Cable internet is a shared network. At first I had good speeds all the time. Apparently someone on the node closer to the ISP than me decided it would be funny to stream some HD pr0n or something. Anyway I don't mind the speeds at night, but I would prefer a more stable connection. Especially since I'm paying more than most, and most likely paying more than the guy on the node who is stealing my bandwidth.

They said they are aware of the issue and are working on it, but I don't know. How do you leave an entire node uncapped for a WEEK?

Update

Lets see. Where to start.

Well, I got Oblivion for my PS3. I been playing that a bunch. My Aunt and Uncle came out from Colorado to visit for a week (they went back today). We got to visit them twice. You can see pics and video from our visits here.

I played Nintendo Wii the other day, so did my Mom. Now we both want one (me moreso). Mom said as soon as we can afford one (likely Mid-August) we will hunt one down and get it.

Um, not much else to say. Still on Vista, have a triple-boot setup for Vista, OSX, and Kubuntu (which is a very retarded and buggy version of Ubuntu, btw.)

Take care :)

Update

I want to update this blog more often, since people still read it, but I don't really have anything to say. I figure posting nothing is better than posting "Nothing new today" 100 times.

Well, I linked (some of) my old screennames on my AIM account and was shocked to see how many buddy names got lost in the transition to my new name. Damn Trillian.

I also got a PSP (with 2gb MSD), and put custom firmware on it.

Otherwise, not much going on yet. Farmer's Almanac claims June should have two huge rounds of bad-ass thunderstorms, so that may be interesting. I still post storms on YouTube (or LiveVideo if its too long to fit on YouTube), so I'll post them here as well if I get any good video.

Um, *thinks*. I'm back on Vista. I was on XP for a while but it keep getting slower, and slower. At the end point it took about 2 minutes after Windows booted before it even activated the network. So I just reinstalled Vista. Now that I have 2gb ram, it doesn't suck so bad. Besides, I don't really use my computer hard-core like I used to. I play PSP and PS3 most the time now.

I caught up (almost) on bleach. I got to where it'd seem the new season started (like ep 116 or whatever) and just lost interest for the time being. I don't know.

Flag Day Parade event is June 9th, maybe I'll record and post some footage from that, I don't know.

Anyway I'm just mindlessly rambling now so I'll go. :)

Update

I should post more often. Heh. Hmm, I last posted about a month ago so I'm not doing too bad, it wasn't 3 months.

Anyway yesterday XP finally died. I spent about 12 hours installing Gentoo just to get pissed off at it and grab a HP recovery disc. Apparently it was the Vista disc. Oh well, Vista isn't too bad this time around with 2gb of ram.

In other news, I got my PS2 modded, and I got a PS3.
And a Zune.

No, I'm not rich, far from it. In fact, the last hurrah, the PS3, actually set us back some, but it was my birthday, and as mom said "fuck it, you only live once".

Oh, and I didn't get the video card I was going to get in the previous post. In fact, I didn't get any video card. I don't game enough of my computer to care really. I did get the RAM though.

Um, can't think of anything else. So, see you next time I remember I have a blog, hehe.

Blah

Wow, it has been a while. I noticed my blog was a bit broken when it was a free account since the paid features were gone. All fixed now.

Anyway, this morning was a bitch. Why? Well, imagine booting your computer and getting this:

(Click for larger view)

Yeah, it wasn't fun. Sometimes I got that, sometimes I got the BSOD, and others it just rebooted without warning. But I managed to fix it completely.
It involved alot of rebooting, hair pulling, cussing, file scanning, registry hacks, tweaks, and some disk checks.

Yeah. What happened was I was having a problem with VMWare. The installer crashed midway through, then it worked the second time. So I thought nothing of it and rebooted like it asked me to. Well, that is when it started. Long story short, I had to manually hack the registry to go into restricted areas (had to give myself access) to forcefully remove the "VMNet" driver (VMWare's network device). Then I tidied up a few things and now Windows XP is as smooth as a clean install, but without having to spend 10 hours reinstalling all of my applications and games.

Also, since it has been a while since I posted, you probably haven't seen my new computer. Well, here you go:

And here are the specs:
HP Pavilion A1710N Desktop PC (AMD Athlon Processor 4200 Plus, 1 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, SuperMulti DVD Drive, Vista Premium) (I ditched Vista and replaced it with XP)
Acer AL2051W 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Geforce 7300GS 256MB DDR2 Pci-e
EARTHWATTS 500 Watt ATX12V V2.0 Psu (Mine is only 430w and was the same price. FU Staples!)

Here is what I have left to get:
1gb RAM (DDR2)
PNY GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB Video Card

Well, take care :)

I live

No, I haven't died... (hey I heard that boo)

I just haven't been updating. Big surprise, huh? Well I been playing FF12 (no, not on a Playstation 3). I don't think I'm going to get a Playstation 3, but who knows.

I have no idea what I'm doing until the income tax comes and we see what we have left after doing things we gotta do, like paying debts, fixing the car, ect.

The primary focus for "toys" is a new computer (either laptop, prebuilt desktop, or build my own desktop), not a Playstation 3.

I'm going to wait on the Playstation 3 for a while. I may pick up a Playstation Portable though.

Not much else going on, preparing for a massive update on Sakura Radio's radiobot music. Otherwise.. yeah.

Well take care and see you in 2 or 3 months, haha.
